LOVE IN SNOW »kisses in the dark PART TWO “Hey, there’s that Ueda!” “You mean there’s U.U.!” “Haah?” ”Yeah, Ugly Ueda.” ”Yeaaah! I got what you mean… she really isn’t pretty, hah?” “Isn’t pretty?? NO, she’s *awful*, man…” Taguchi Junnosuke grinded his teeth with anger as he heard all the people of the school discuss what they thought was the funniest they know… meaning the new transfer girl in his own class. It didn’t bother him that she was a transfer - why would he care if she was? It didn’t matter to him, so when the other guys had been running all around Maru at the front desk, he’d just been sitting in his corner, close to the window against the corridor, so that he could look out. In the beginning, he thought they would soon give up their fix idea about the poor girl being ugly, even though it probably was right. He himself hadn’t even been looking at her, because he really didn’t care. But when almost two weeks had gone and they still kept mocking her he couldn’t stand it any longer. “Oh, c’mon!” he hissed at them, making them laugh by surpriseness. (That’s not… really… a word. Let’s say it is!) “Let that stuff go! Why do you keep it up, anyway?” “Eh? Taguchi, are you blind or nothing?” the closest guy, Jin himself, said, laughing. “I mean, just look at her! She doesn’t even look like a girl; she’s just as a middle thing. C’mon look at her, she’s over there.” For a few seconds, he looked up and at the same time, he met Ueda’s gaze, staring at him through her fringe. He swallowed, legs suddenly feeling very… spaghetti-like. “Uh”, was everything he could manage to say, before turning around and try to walk away. “You see? Even that fag thinks she’s ugly!” Jin said, laughing. Junno ran. “Great one, Jin”, Kazuya answered. All the other pupils from the Gakkou High laughed with them. Junno simply hated them, and he mumbled that over and over again when he hid under the stairs where he used to place his way-too-long body when he didn’t want them to find him. “I hate them, I hate them, I hate them…” he mumbled, with his eyes closed, just as a low bump was heard from beside him. As if he’d been stung by a bee or something, he turned his head around against the shadow who sat there. In fact it wasn’t a shadow, really, but it was between him and the light so he couldn’t call it anything else. “I don’t really like them either”, a familiar voice whispered in his ear. “Hah? Transfer girl?” he mumbled back, not really understanding that she sat just beside him, so close that her skirt was actually touching the cloth of his jeans. “Yeah, it’s me… You’re Taguchi-something, ain’t ya?” Her voice was darker than the other girls, they who spoke with such headache-making voices. If he didn’t know she was a girl, he would certainly think it was a young boy that spoke to him. Which it wasn’t. Surely. “Taguchi Junnosuke, actually.” “Oh.” She was quiet for some minutes. “Why’re you hiding down here, anyway?” “Well… I… err…” Junno was happy for the darkness under those stairs - his face was glowing in a vivid red. “I don’t really like them.” Actually, he hided because they didn’t like him. He’d been bullied for a long time already, and once he got beaten, so he didn’t take any chances. “Oh… I don’t like them either”, Ueda said. “Especially not the girls.” She snorted. “I *hate* stupid girls. But I like you. Eh.” She swallowed a little. “I mean, you actually asked them to stop, if you get what I mean?” “Yeah. Sure.” But Junno’s throat was suddenly dry. Why? What was it with this girl? “Ehh… the lesson starts soon, not good to be late, y’know…” “Oh, than you should maybe come after me, ‘cause… ‘cause I don’t think you want them to think that we’ve been chatting or nothing.” All of sudden, she got out and almost ran away before Junno even had time to react. He slowly began to wander away, just to get to the classroom in time, trying to think of anything, anything except for that girl. “Hello there, fag”, Jin whispered as he and Kazuya passed by. Junno felt his heart beat harder. Yes, Jin was so right. Junno was gay - that’s why he didn’t understand why he felt so strange about *her*. And that was another reason why he didn’t want to be around Jin and Kazuya - they were so perfect in their looks, their moves, their EVERYTHING. He didn’t want to watch them because they looked so wonderful, making him weak. And he couldn’t stop love them how much he ever tried to tell himself that he hated them.
