LOVE IN SNOW »kisses in the dark PART EIGHT “Junno, could you please go give this book to a friend of mine?” Junno’s mother said and waved a book in the air. “I don’t have the time and I’m going to make dinner… you can take the bike. Could you do it for me?” “Err…” Junno looked up from the manga he was reading and sat up in his bed. “Sure…” “Great, Junno!” His mother sighed with relief. “Here’s the address, take the bike and hurry, so that you’re home for dinner.” “Alright.” Junno got up from the bed, heading towards the door. “Don’t forget a jacket!” “Mum, it’s freaking cold, do you think I’m stupid?” he shouted back, just receiving a laughter before he got out through the door. Soon enough he was on his way along the streets. The woman his mother knew lived in a part of the town that was pretty poor. It didn’t bother him; the big part of his mother’s friends was from there, and he knew almost everyone of them. This one was new though, but he knew the streets and got there just a couple of minutes after leaving his home. It was one of those apartment houses, wasn’t it? They didn’t look very nice. The apartments were probably very tiny. And the woman he was going to speak to lived high up. “Akaoka-san?” he asked when he got to the right floor, and the door he knocked on had opened. “I’m Taguchi Junnosuke, my mum said I would give you this book…” “Oh, thanks!” She was a very thin woman, that’s for sure. She almost seemed starving with bone-white skin. “It’s very nice of you to come here with it…” ”Nothing to talk about”, Junno said, smiling. “But I’ve got to hurry, mum told me to be home quickly.” “Alright, I guess you’re studying even though it’s Saturday, could it be?” She smiled. “Oh, anyway, I should let you go. Give your mother my best regards.” “I will. Good bye.” Junno turned around and begun to walk down the stairs again. No wonder she looked like she had not fat in her body - it was like a gymnastic lesson by just walking upstairs and downstairs ONCE. He’d just reached the third floor (from the bottom seen, of course) when a door next to him was opened. A voice said: “No mum, I won’t be late. I’ll just be off visiting a friend. Bye mum, bye dad!” Anyone could’ve said those two sentences, and Junno wouldn’t have reacted - but the guy wasn’t anyone. It was a very familiar voice. A very, very familiar voice. So Junno turned against him as the door was closed and stared at the boys face… who was as shocked as himself. “Kamenashi Kazuya?” he whispered. Kazuya’s face turned pale and he looked as if he didn’t know what to do. “What are you doing here?” Junno asked. All his time at the school he’d heard of Jin and Kazuya - the richest guys at the whole place. So why was the later among the poor? Kazuya suddenly ran away down the stairs. Junno stood staring after him for a second before running after him, he saw him turn right outside of the door and keep running, so he got up at the bike and followed after him. He didn’t even remember the fear he had against the guy. “Hey… Wait!” he shouted after him and stopped just in front of him. “Do you live there?” Kazuya looked around himself, but nobody was so close that he could be heard, so he met Junno’s gaze directly. “No, I don’t, my family does. Don’t tell anybody, Taguchi! Please don’t tell anybody!” Junno was stunned by the begging tone. He never had thought that one of the popular guys could be scared - but Kazuya looked fucking frightened. And he was begging. “You promise not to tell, do you?” he asked over and over. “Please, Taguchi, my life’s hanging upon it!” “A-alright”, Junno stuttered. “I promise. Secret. Yes.” Kazuya gave him a relieved hug before running away. Junno stared after him before coming to his senses and drive home again. But one thought kept repeating in his brain. Kazuya was poor. Much more poor than Junno himself… and he just pretended to be a rich guy.
