Using Writer 5.4.2 one can select PDF - Portable Document Format (Writer) in the file-type dropdown. But any attempt I make to open a PDF results in a dialog box with the message Read Error. Error reading file (each sentence on its own line). Is PDF a supported input format? Is it planned to be?

LibreOffice does not have the native capability to open or import random PDF files into a Writer document (and there are no extensions available that add this).
