Made from sugar, spice, everything nice and Chemical X by the Professor; Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup now use their superpowers and super cuteness to save the world (or at least Townsville) from evil villains and all things icky.
Much like other reviewers, I can't say that this show is good, nor is it bad. It's not really anything special like Steven Universe or Adventure Time... but it's not really a Teen Titans Go type of show, either. Something that I can say about the series is that it doesn't really make any sense, which is one of the reasons why I'm giving it 5/10.
For a show that's supposed to be about three little girls fighting crime, I find that they are almost NEVER fighting crime. Heck, in the most recent episode, they ignored their duties to play a cheesy video game. In the end, they were saved by the Mayor of the town (who's supposed to be a complete idiot but suddenly has a sudden character change in this episode,) but don't seem to feel an inch of guilt about it. That's... not really something I'd want my kids to be seeing if they had television, but alrightie then. That leads me to another issue that I have with the series: the characters all seem to be completely Flanderized.
The main three characters in this series - Buttercup, Blossom, and Bubbles - can each be chalked up to one character trait: Buttercup is the tough one, Blossom is the smart one, and Bubbles is the "cutesy" one. I'm not kidding. I've watched all six episodes of the series so far, and I can't really seem to find anything interesting about any of the girls. To be honest, I've just found myself bored while watching them. Now, maybe my thoughts on this would be different if the series was actually funny.
To me, the humor in this series comes off as them trying too hard. There are transphobic jokes (in other words, there are countless "man in a dress" jokes which are not only completely unfunny, but also offensive,) and the girls were twerking in one episode. Uh... yeah... not really my thing.
Something that really turned me off from the series at the start were the voices. In the original series, the voices and the casting was all that you could ever want - Buttercup, played by E.G. Daily, had rasp but a little hint of sweetness to her voice, Blossom sounded like an intelligent, young, leader, and Bubbles really did sound cutesy. I can't say that the casting is a dream come true anymore.
Look, I have nothing against the girls who play Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles now. I just don't like the casting choices. Blossom's voice actress is the best out of all of them, but her voice is a little too similar to that of the new Bubbles. As for the new Bubbles... I'm not really sure if I can get used to her voice. The girls are supposed to be in first grade now, but the new Bubbles doesn't really sound like a first grader; I find it more believable that she'd be in third or fourth grade. As for Buttercup? She just reminds me too much of Bart Simpson, and I love her voice actress's natural speaking voice, but I just don't think that she was the right choice.
Overall, this series still gets a 5/10. It's not anything that I'd personally recommend, but at the same time, I can watch it without getting a headache.
It's pretty much the same show i watched as a kid. The only reason people don't like it as much anymore is because both the show and ourselves have aged and the new episodes don't hold the same nostalgia-value as the old ones. At least that's my opinion.
The only difference here is the cast, and slight changes in the animation.
I don't think the old show was as amazing as the internet insists it is, but it's decent/fine/OK.
And I've noticed some other reviews stating outrage over the vilification of gender-swapping or transgenders. That is not the case, this is aimed at kids (i.e opposite gender of lead-child has cooties) and i don't really think magic, red, supernatural things really need a gender, we don't know.
