The nutshell: Save your money! Do not rent this movie...it's that PATHETIC.
We selected this movie based on the quality of Morgan Freeman's past work. I mean, "It's a Morgan Freeman movie so it's got to be pretty good, right?" Well, guess again!
This movie is chock-full of stereotypes: dumb/bumbling cops, stupid drug dealers, raunchy strippers, a misunderstood criminal culture, and the list goes on, and on, and on... This has to be the worst movie I've seen since Irwin Allen's, "The Swarm" (1978).
As the other reviewers mention, Morgan Freeman is conspicuously AWOL in this movie. He must have forgot to read the script (was there really a script?) before agreeing to do this pathetic excuse for a movie. Come-on, Morgan, after all the effort you've made to carve out a legitimate niche in your profession, how can you associate your name with trash like this? You may have assumed that the movie would go unnoticed, so why not just take the $,$$$,$$$ and run? It may work this time, but keep it up, and eventually you'll lose all the credibility that you've worked so hard to achieve.
Caveat Emptor: Next time, I'll thoroughly research a Morgan Freeman film before viewing it.
Okay, so I'm walking through Family Video looking for a movie and I see a Morgan Freeman movie! I'm a fan of his... I think I'll check it out. Mr Freeman has a total of about 20 lines in this movie, in his 10 minutes on screen at the end. I guess if you like gang-related movies and don't mind a reeeeeeeeeeeally slow moving movie, you might sit through the whole thing. Unfortunately, I can comprehend dialog a little faster than this movie drips it. Overall, the acting is very poor, the pace super slow, camera work looks like amateur, and the lack of Morgan in an advertised Morgan Freeman movie is incredible. If you bought this movie, you should give credit to the advertising agency that took your cash.
