The Mad River Guide was a great canoe. It still is but now it's called the Freedom Solo. If Bell didn't create the Wildfire, I would be paddling a Guide/Freedom Solo. At 57 lbs. I probably wouldn't be portaging it though, at least not in one trip with a pack loaded with gear. It's a tough, solid and maneuverable boat well suited to
Mad River Guide. Manufacturer's Description: The most versatile solo performance canoe produced, and perhaps the perfect solo river-running boat for day trips or expeditions. Durable Royalex® construction tolerates the extremes of running loaded through rapids and returning at the end of the day to surf a hole.

17 Dec 2005 These canoe seem to have a love/hate relationship with paddlers. I've noticed that big guys tend to hate them, smaller folk love them. This would fit in with my assessment: the Guide is for smaller, intermediate paddlers looking for an alround tripping boat which has good river potential. I only ever used mine
