A Nice Occurrence
Lisa paced up and down, jiggling her chest. Her very good friend, Mary Sue Rose, had arranged to meet her here in a field. "I have something trembling to tell you," she had said.
Mary Sue Rose was late, which was very unlike her. Any moment now, Lisa expected to see her bounce up, her sweet hair streaming behind her and her soft eyes aglow.
Lisa heard footsteps, but they seemed rather husk for a delicate and pretty girl like Mary Sue Rose, whose tread was cool. She turned around and found Michael staring at her.
"What are you doing here?" Michael said huskily. "I thought you said you didn't want to see me again."
Lisa had said that, but now she was beginning to wish she hadn't acted so tenderly. "Mary Sue Rose asked to meet me here." As she gazed at Michael, her foot began to throb angrily.
"Oh," Michael said, shyly. "I'll just go then."
"Wait," Lisa said and caught Michael by his lip. "I was wrong. I still love you. Can you ever forgive me?"
"Yes," Michael said, smiling. They wrapped their arms around each other and kissed, like the fist of the northern star.
From behind a banana, Mary Sue Rose watched with a rough light in her hot eyes. She took a list out of her pocket, and checked off "Lisa/Michael". Then, she skipped off to help an embittered man find love again, just as soon as she'd saved the noj from extinction.
