The IDSA/ASM document offers concrete guidance for adult patients, recommending 2 to 4 blood culture sets (1 aerobic and 1 anaerobic bottle per set) for each septic episode. In the pediatric population, collection of blood culture sets, which can include 1 or 2 bottles, is solely based on patient weight.
