31 Jan 2010 I disagree. I shoot single stack 1911 in USPSA and have had short GI guide rods bind and break recoil springs on more than one occasion. So, a full length guide rod does in fact give you a functional benefit. I would never run a GI short rod in a 1911. However, use the right one. Either a one piece STI style
Can anyone tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages of both a full length and short length guide rod? My XSE came with a full length one, while my Gold Cup came with a short one. Just wondering, thanks ahead of time for the info.
18 Oct 2007 The only practical difference between full length and non-full length guide rods is the ease in which one can take down the firearm. The full length guide rod requires a hole in the plug, which can be tough on the thumb. Other than that, I don't believe it matters. I have 1911's with each style, and I can't tell
