My second Marlin was a stainless steel Guide Gun with ported barrel and I added XS Express sights. It remains one of the fastest on target hunting rifles I have ever owned. I know this question belongs in the armory section, but I am hopeing that it will get a better response here. I have a Marlin lever action 45-70 guide gun with the 18" ported barrell. One of my friends hunted with this gun this past weekend and decided that he wants to buy one for himself. He called me today
24 Mar 2011 While I no longer own any .45 cal rifles, I happened to have long owned .45-70 rifles & carbines including a ported .45-70 Guide Gun, an unported .45-70 Sporter, and a ported .450 Marlin shorty. I definitely didn't like the .450 (I don't handload), and would rather have a .45-70, either port4ed or not.

10 Apr 2012 This subject has probably been beat to death but when did they stop porting the guide guns in 45-70. I had a 450 that was ported but today I bought a non ported guide gun serial # 9102xxxxx so I assume it is a 2009 mutiney year model but it has the JM stamp on left side and nothing but the warning on the
22 Jan 2004 My question is almost the same as RJT's, im seriously thinging about getting one of Marlin's guide guns. Is the recoil comeing off one of these guide guns (non-ported) worse than that of a non-ported 12 guage? Is it harder to get off an accurate follow up shot with the guide gun in .45 .70 than it is with a 12
