This error occurs when u stop the any installation in-between either using terminal or Ubuntu app center. This can be solved by removing the broken installation. To do so enter the following command in the terminal in the same order. cd /var/lib/dpkg/updates sudo rm * sudo apt-get update
3 Nov 2016
I had this problem before it was because something went wrong during installation. Try this command to fix broken packages: sudo apt-get install -f. And then try to run sudo dpkg --configure -a again. reference : https://askubuntu.com/a/163339/183864
29 Jun 2011 Delete available and run sudo apt-get update. Then try to install a package. If that doesn't fix your problem, do it again, and as a third step delete all files in /var/lib/dpkg/updates BEFORE you try to install another package.
4 Oct 2016 E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. and when I tryed, I got my terminal stopped in the midle of the process: admmint18-2@admmint182-MS-7800 ~ $ sudo dpkg --configure -a. Setting up libid3tag0 (0.15.1b-11) Setting up libspnav0 (0.2.3-1) .
Run the command it tells you to sudo dpkg --configure -a and it should be able to correct itself. If it doesn't try running sudo apt-get install -f (to fix broken packages) and then try running sudo dpkg --configure -a again. Just make sure you have internet access available so that you can download any dependencies.

Remove all the files inside /var/lib/dpkg/updates directory with the following commands: cd /var/lib/dpkg/updates sudo rm *. And then run this command to get the newer ones: sudo apt-get update
18 Jun 2015 1.Go to terminal window 1.Go to terminal window 2.Type in "dpkg --configure -a"(EXACTLY THIS!) 3.I've never had to do this, but it should either do it auto or be self-explanatory. Like (4 likes)
