When Helen seeks out a life of excitement in the arms of another man (Bill Paxton), Harry sets out to give her the excitement she craves while simultaneously battling Arab terrorists in possession of an atomic bomb and causing his rival in love to change his trousers.There were punchlines, there were hidden jokes and extremely awkward moments (in my eyes) at some occasions, but most of all the climax was just amazing. The tango was horrible I have to admit, the dance was awfully done but it was still fun to watch and see Arnold put on his sexy face but also, of course, see him dance!
Maybe for the first time in an awfully long time I actually paid attention to an action scene. The jet plane and helicopter scene was really well made. It was something new to look at and not just two big guys hitting each other on the abdomen until the other one makes a gory painful face and goes into slumber or, plot twist!!, the main character dies! Ha ha no but the jokes aside I really enjoyed the scene. There was something about fighting in the air that triggered my interest. The way Arnold protected himself by turning the plane sideways from the shooting was so clever and well thought of I would be disappointed if no one noted that moment. Then we have the insane "terrorist" who is stupid enough to stand on a plane and not expect the pilot to do something about it so he would fall off. To be honest I didn't thought about it myself until it happened which made me feel pretty stupid and then amused.
This movie was great and it's a shame it hasn't gotten a higher rate than just above 7. Aside from the horrible tango the movie was excellent!TRUE LIES, in my opinion, is an excellent super-spy flick. It really kept me on the edge of my seat and made me feel good and smile. Also, it gave me a few thrills. I thought that Harry (Arnold Schwarzenegger) looked good in the tuxedos he wore and that Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis) looked beautiful in all the dressy clothing she wore... especially the one she wore when she got the mysterious call to go to the hotel. My favorite parts are when Salim Abu Aziz (Art Malik) is launched on the missile and when Helen punches Harry when he says, "Well, what can I say? I'm a spy." In conclusion, I highly recommend this excellent super-spy flick to all you Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jamie Lee Curtis fans who have not seen it.True Lies is so eager to give you a giddy good time that you're more than happy to let it work you over. Harry decides to give Helen an assignment, since Helen is a bored with her life and wants excitement, which he poses as a man suspected of being a arms dealer, which Helen poses as a prosistute, so she can plant a bug in the telephone in his hotel room. But, when Harry and Helen are both abducted by Aziz. Harry is forced to reveal to Helen that he is a secret agent and Harry and Helen escape from the island outside of Miami, where they are being held captive, which is nuked and Harry sets out to rescue his 14-year old daughter Dana, whom has been taken hostage by Aziz in a building in Miami and stop Aziz, whom plots to detonate a nuclear warhead, which will wipe out Miami. Ten scenes were altered, mostly fighting scenes showing double-ear-claps, headbutts and so on. All cuts were waived for the newest releases. The flash from the initial explosion of a nuclear warhead is so intense it can blind a human. When the scientists of the Manhattan Project detonated the 1st atomic bomb in 1945, they all wore dark goggles so they could watch the explosion without being blinded. If you watch footage of that event, you'll see them all putting on goggles. While the title may seem like a contradictory statement, as in "lies that are true", it actually refers to the lies being pure or outright lies. Kind of like saying "They're a true soldier". The film has several characters that lie to each other - Harry lies to Helen about him being a computer salesman, when he is really a secret agent. Simon the car salesman lies to Helen about him being a secret agent himself, so he can manipulate Helen into having sex with him. Helen lies to Harry about leaving the office to meet with Simon at the Chinese restaurant, etc. Simon ([link]nm0000200[/link]) is a smarmy, cowardly, smug used car salesman. He talks himself up to his customers, however he is simply trying to cover his insecurities, although he can probably read people well, hence his being a salesman. Later in the film, he confesses that he has to lie to women to have sex and he isn't successful most of the time. When he sees Helen at the restaurant, he thought she would be an easy mark; attractive, uptight, dorky. So he thought his secret agent story would work on her, offering her adventure and excitement. His hunch turned out to be correct. But little did either of them know, Helen's "boring jerk" of a husband is a real secret agent. Yes, it is a remake of a 1991 French film called La Totale! about a secret agent whose wife thinks he's a telecommunications employee.
