17 Sep 2014 I am looking at getting a couple custom DH and TUCR rods this year. Just want everyone's opinions on recoil guides. Are they worth the extra money. I will be having a couple 32-34" rods made for larger walleye angling. I fish both out of an Otter Lodge and outside. Let me know your thoughts on the recoil
I have built several ice rods out of the finest blanks one can buy, some with recoils and some with Flexlite wire guides and in my opinion there is NO freezing up or weight difference. The biggest difference is the price of each brand and the sense of knowing you have custom built rod with a lower value
Would it be worth to stick with fly guides or go the more expensive recoils? Last year, I built an ice rod using 3 #6 single foot wire fly guides for the to top 3 guides and a # 12 and a #10 flexilite for the other 2 guides. On my ice rods I use a #12 recoil then 4 light weight Fly guides $8 cost for guides.
4 Sep 2012 The recoils are very good guides. Are they worth the extra cost? Debatable. I do like using them on any rod where icing of the guides may come into play. When they freeze up (which happens less with a all metal guide vs. a ringed guide) you can either flick the offending guide or even run your hand down
28 Jan 2016 The upgrade also comes equipped with a Recoil guide set wrapped in solid black—another drastic weight reduction that translates into one amazing ice rod. The 27- and 32-inch Quiverstick Stealth rods retail for $112.99 and $122.99, respectively. Best Ice Fishing Rods Lunkerhunt First Ice Rods

31 Dec 2010 I"ve done a lot of searching on this forum (some great info by the way) about recoil guides and seems to be a lot of back and forth. for what its worth i have 2 saltwater rods that ive been using for about 5 years or more now with powerpro braid. it is old braid that i leave on most of the summer and then flip
27 Nov 2012 I have them on the 5 Thorne Bros rods I have. WELL WORTH the upgrade!!! They don't freeze up nearly close to a typical guide, and you can bend them without issue.
