22 Apr 2016 Benjamin Britten's wonderful tour of the modern symphony in his work The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra actually began as music for a film introducing musical instruments to children. He later took his composition, based upon a theme by Henry Purcell, and turned it into this purely musical work.
The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra is a 1945 musical composition by Benjamin Britten with a subtitle Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell.
