29 Jun 2017 the comparison to factory ammo of which there has been a lot of improvement in the .45-70 side for a while now. There still basically identical. The .450 had heavier brass (but harder to find), with more modern loads, and rifles, I don't know that it's even truly a factor. I think right now I'm in the 1895M .45-70

The .450 Marlin is a firearms cartridge designed as a modernized equivalent to the venerable .45-70 cartridge. It was designed by a joint team of Marlin and Hornady engineers headed by Hornady's Mitch Mittelstaedt, and was released in 2000, with cartridges manufactured by Hornady and rifles manufactured by Marlin,
The Marlin Model 1895M is a lever-action hunting rifle chambered in .450 Marlin. The 1895M is a smaller version of the Classic Model 1895 with an 18.5? barrel and weighing 7 pounds. What separates it from other M1895s is its straight-grip stock, which is a more traditional style borrowed from a two-trigger shotgun design
10 Jun 2011 450 Marlin vs. 45/70 Help me decide. What is the pros and cons for both. I am going to get a 1895M guide gun to bear hunt with. I haven,t decided which caliber yet. Any help will be appreciated. cgcollins likes this.
Marlin .45-70's have been with us for well over 100 years, in one form or another, while the Browning BLR has been with us for only slightly more than 40 years and the .450 Marlin caliber for less than 10 years. The Marlin Model 1895 is offered in both .45-70 and .450 Marlin calibers, while the BLR is currently available only
Major differences only occur when comparing data collected from full 22 to 24" barreled M1895 or Ruger No1 .45-70 rifles with the newer .450 M1895 Guide gun. As an example, the .450 Guide gun is capable of pushing a 350 grain bullet at 2000fps as opposed to 2300fps in the Ruger No1 .45-70 or 2200fps in the Marlin
