We have a 1968 ford 4000 row crop 3 cyl gas with a select o speed that slipped a bit in 9th gear then just locked up. we were able to use the tow release to move it off the road and trailer it home. The tractor only has 1300 original hours so I am thinking I would like to replace the trans with a 8 speed. I would

I just bought a 1966 ford 4000 3 cyl gas tractor it has 1680 hrs Anyone know anything good about the select o speed. Like all automatic transmissions, it does not like dirty fluid. jb The first transmissions were so bad, that by the time ford got the major bugs worked out, the selecto's reputation was ruined.

I just brought home a 1963 Ford 4000 Gas with Select-O-Speedyes I've heard a lot of the negative things about SOS. I tried out all the gears on. I plan to adjust the belts, but the manual calls for flipping a lever on the right side of the transmission that disengages the driveline. The ONLY lever I can find on
I posted on the miscellaneous board that I bought a Ford 881 Gold Demonstrator with a SOS. The SOS manual shows how to take all of the pressures etc but it looks like the transmission and tractor need to be running to do that. We sold one big farmer 27 SOS tractors at a time, all 4000 and 5000.
