7 Oct 2016 My first step (pardon the pun!) was to look for online self-guided walks in Paris that others have prepared and were generous enough to share. I've found quite a few so I'm sharing them here focused on Hemingway and Samuel Beckett. There's also a self-guided visit to the Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise.
On this walk, therefore, you'll pay tribute to the heroes and victims of French political history, and visit the tombs of some of France's greatest writers. Rather than entering Pere-Lachaise by the main entrance on Boulevard Menilmontant, start at the much more discreet gate set into the southern wall of the cemetery on Rue de
16 rue du Repos, 75020 Paris, France (Belleville / Pere Lachaise) I printed off Rick Steves self-guided walking tour of Pere-Lachaise before I left. On of my favourite places to stroll around is cimetiere Pere-Lachaise.

14 May 2015 there is a neat little takeaway bonus: a free 10-page guide in English titled "In the Footsteps of Edith Piaf" which is a 4-hour, self-guided tour through Paris of all the places she lived, performed, ate, and, ultimately, now lies in peace, from the private Edith Piaf Museum (totally worth a visit) to Pere Lachaise
30 Apr 2015 A few days ago I filed a post on a self-guided walk in Montmartre Cemetery and that visit spurred me to want to visit Pere Lachaise Cemetery, its much better known big sister. While Montmartre is reasonably compact with only one way in and out, Pere Lachaise is massive with considerable elevation

Take your self-guided walking tour through Paris' most famous cemetery, which is the size of the Vatican. You will discover the tombs of celebrities like Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and Chopin, amongst others.
Don't get off at the Pere-Lachaise metro stop - go one metro stop over to Gambetta (this way you're able to walk downhill through the cemetary). Wear comfortable shoes (the streets are rocky and not paved for the most part) and print out a self-guided tour before you go. I took screen shots of Rick Steves self-guided tour on
