30 Nov 2013 I am looking for a way to annotate a PDF file with the image of a signature, then save it as one merged document. I'm hoping to get some suggestions here on an way way to do this. In a windows environment I used to use Nitro PDF but I can't get it to run on Ubuntu with wine.
Poppler (poppler-utils) contains pdfsig , which verifies the signature against the stored known certificates. It's not yet super advanced (no export), but a Try our software PDF Studio Viewer, a PDF Reader for Linux that supports rendering and validating digital signatures. I am a developer for this software.

2 Mar 2017 If you want to use a desktop app, Xournal is probably the most convenient tool for signing PDFs on Linux. It can annotate PDFs, adding images to them. First, you'll need to create an image of your signature—sign a piece of paper, scan it into your Linux system, and clean it up.
On Ubuntu: Install Xournal through the Ubuntu Software Center. Open Xournal. Select "Annotate PDF" from the File menu and select your PDF file to be signed. Click the "Image" button in the toolbar (it looks like a silhouette of a person). Select a PNG image of your signature. Resize and position the image on the PDF.
