This topic is 6 years old! Anything similar to the original problem happening today has probably a completely different cause & solution. In recent months it was observed that older Kaspersky software can cause either or both Menu bar and Toolbar to disappear. To fix it update Kaspersky to the latest version

19 Jun 2012 To enable this option under PDF-XChange Viewer: Click on Edit > Preferences > General. In the "Document Layout" section, check "Hide Tab Bar for Single Document". Click on OK to validate.
