Real Madrid have not discarded the possibility of reinforcing their midfield with more than one signing, according to Marca, and — given the German national team's strong showing during the World Cup — have stepped up their interest in Mesut Oezil, Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Oezil was one of the breakout young players in South Africa and with just one year left on his contract with Werder Bremen, the German club will be intent to get full value for his transfer. Barcelona and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the technically gifted youngster, who has recently declared that he will stay with Werder Bremen next season.
Khedira caught Madrid coach Jose Mourinho's eye after his World Cup performance and the Stuttgart midfielder's attractive price of £12.5 million could make him a viable option in the Madrid midfield.
Bayern Munich are also reportedly pursuing his signature.
Finally, Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger continues to be on Los Blancos' radar after an excellent summer in South Africa and the player has already alluded to his interest in exploring a possible move to the Spanish capital.
Bayern have declared that they will not sell the player, but the transfer narrative could make some interesting twists and turns before summer's end.
