As the light fades and the city goes to sleep, two forces emerge. They are invisible except for the power they exert over us in our sleep, battling for our souls through dreams. One force delivers hope and strength through good dreams; the other infuses the subconscious with desperation through nightmares. John and Emma, Father and Daughter are wrenched into this fantastical dream world battle, forced to fight for John's soul and to save Emma from an eternal nightmare. Separate in their journey, they encounter unusual characters that exist only in their subconscious. Or do they?
Ink is the story of a troubled father and his relationship with his young daughter, his work life, and his own sense of being. Transcending our own reality and entering the dreamlike mirror realities of the Storytellers and the Incubus, Ink explores how you can forget yourself and end up feeling trapped as someone who you never thought you'd become. It is a powerful tale of love, loss and regret.
It is classified as sci-fi/fantasy, but only because we don't have any other category. Let me suggest a new one: spiritual. Granted, if you travel over to netflix, you'll be given that option as a category. But never have I seen such a film that defines the category so strongly that it deserves it's own genre, right up there with drama, comedy, and the others. See, the faith/spirituality category encompasses films that deal overtly with religion. Or, they could be the very poorly produced and preachy Christian films such as the Left Behind series. But this film obviously transcends all that. It is not strictly talking about a religion. And it doesn't have a preachy message. However, there are parts religious, part Christian even, and also has it all under-girded with a common humanity.
Fantasy wouldn't be as powerful on its own. It would be pretty to look at and possibly keep me captivated. But unless it connected me with something from my heart, it would all just be ascetics and I want more than that. Ink delivers heart in spades. As I was watching this movie, I found myself alternating between being in awe of the visuals and having my heart transfixed on a character or scene. This movie works on so many levels but most of all because it taps into something deep within us all - the need to be loved.
Normally i really really like weird and f****** films,but this one didn't give me a ,chance to understand the storyline clearly,i mean i got it,but it could have been way way better. It is trying to make an epic film,but they failed somewhat. I still think it is an pretty awesome experience to watch it but they could have done so much more out of it. I would buy and watch a sequel or a remake,with the faith that it's more fluent and understandable. Well it is worth to watch but if u don't like to think much about it you won't get it and if you think about it it is more work then fun. no more no less. 5/10 Because it could have been so much better !
