Chapter 7 - List of tasks (Part 2)
- Weapons licence?
- Check.
- Wallet?
- Check.
- The car keys?
- Of course I wont forget the car keys, Juliet! I'm not stupid1
I could hear that he was mildly annoyed.
- Just checking, Snipes.
- Don't call me that. It sound ridiculous.
- I have to give you a nickname! And Snipes sounds good, I said with a mischievous voice.
We got out of the car and went for the entrance. Above the door there was a sign saying "Guns 'n' stuff". Seems legit enough.
The inside of the store locked like any small grocery store, except the shelves were filled with boxes of ammunition and other stuff to maintain your weapon. Sniper went directly towards the checkout counter and rang a bell with a post-it note saying "Ring the bell for help" next to it. I decided to just stroll down the aisle in boredom. It was really quiet inside. The only thing you could hear was Snipers mumbling and how he repeatedly rang the poor bell.
*Bzz Bzz*
Was that my cell phone? I picked it out of my pocket and saw that I've got a new text message. I didn't recognize the number though.
" Hi there ;)"
Could it be?
It would be to embarrassing to just suppose who it was, so I had to ask.
"Who?"
It didn't take long for the person to answer.
"Scout, who else :D"
Thought so.
"Looking forward to this afternoon :)" he texted.
A door opened.
- Howdy, Snipa'. I guess y'all are here for the special order ya sent for? a very familiar voice greeted my mentor.
- Hi there, Engineer, he answered.
I put back my phone in my pocket were it belongs and walked back over to my friends.
- Hi there, miss! Now, what's yar name again? Engineer asked me.
- Hi! I'm Juliet, Snipers apprentice, I greeted him with a smile while shaking his hand.
- Hi Juliet, call me Engineer. Everyone does so. Now, 'bout them costume bullets, Snipa'. Ehmm... the brand has stopped making 'em. They're nowhere to be found by now.
- Are you serious? There must be some of them left? Sniper asked.
- Nah, I'm sorry, mate. But here's an idea; I let you try out a new rifle and ya can have it for the price of the bullets, no matter the original price.
We went with him to the backyard of the store. There were a shooting range and some lined up weapons along a wall of the building.
- Come now, le' me show ya this one ova here, Engineer said to Sniper and they both went along the wall. I got bored and decided to check out the weapons by my self. The two colleagues was occupied with their searching for a new weapon with perfect fit. They'd already started test shooting some of them. I sincerely don't think they would mind or notice if I just looked at the other weapons. Maybe I could just lift one of them up to feel it. I doubt that would mind or notice if I were careful. I reached for one of the nearest rifles. Since my mentor was mastered snipers, there were no use trying a different kind. It was a perfect fit. It almost felt like It was made especially for my hands. I had to try it out.
- Hey, guys! Can try this one? I asked out loud. They turned their attention towards me.
- Well... If it's okay with ya, It's fine and dandy according to me, Engineer said turning the question to Sniper.
- Well... umm... I guess it should be alright.
We walked over to the shooting range. I put the rifles bottom against my right shoulder and laid my left hand under the barrel. Sniper walked over to me to adjust my elbow.
- You'll break your arm if you keep holding the rifle like that, mate. We'll have to work on that, he said as he raised it a little bit.
I aimed at the target which was placed at about one hundred feet away from me. I carefully squeezed the trigger and as the shoot went of I feel backwards. I was unable to fight the power. I was to week.
- Juliet! Are you ok? Sniper screamed with horror in his voice.
- It's ok, I'm fine. I wasn't prepared, that's all, I explained to him. Could It be that he actually was worried about me?
After all we ended up buying two new rifles, one for Sniper and one for me. And off course working bullets. We left Engineers shop and headed outside to Snipers van.
- Now were the bloody hell did I put the car keys? my mentor mumbled. Could I've forgotten them inside the store? I'll go back and check.
- Okay. But hurry, we're suppose to be at Scout's in less than an hour, I reminded him.
He went back. Of course I had to go over to the car and check if he actually would be so stupid and forget the keys in the car...
... Wouldn't you know, he actually is.
