I went to close my roof for some reason I don't remember. Now the roof will not work at all. The light at the switch is blinking. Problem is I have the 2 steel brackets that hold the back hatch popped up and can install the back panel back on. I can't manual release any part of the roof. It is stuck closed.

Undo the latches by way of the allen keys (in the hatch above the rear view mirror). Once the latches are free, the roof can be manually lowered, or rather pushed! Its an effort and if on your own you will have to create a gap that you can squeeze into (standing in the car) so you can get the leverage.
6 Mar 2015 I have a BMW Z4 3,0i 2005 and the soft top motor has given up. I have tried (with BMW help) to pull the red handle and manually take down the top, but the top is stuck! Any one Then you should be able to push the roof into the open position, then lock it down by pressing the open button a second time.

All models got a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic. . but getting them in and out is one of the biggest problems, as the roof mechanism leaves you with a narrow opening when you raise the bootlid.
