12 Oct 2017 Near the top of that BIOS screen is a setting called Ai Overclock Tuner (again, your MB/BIOS might use a different name). The drop down menu for this setting usually has these choices: “auto," “XMP," and “manual." Default is generally auto. This setting is the first step in overclocking the RAM. Try auto at first
24 Jan 2011 What you guys prefer using XMP setting or Manual setting for ram? since both of this setting are pretty much exact same, is any difference for using.
3 Dec 2015 You'd think, but no. I have failed to get any stable manual overclock at all, though I haven't tried below 4.5Ghz, because I already had a stable adaptive 4.5Ghz (1.2v, offset +.75, gets up to 1.312v during stress testing). Trying 4.6 Ghz adaptive wasnt stable, but I didnt try disabling xmp. Last edited by Qwinn;
Should I use X.M.P. or use manual settings to overclock. I understand how to enter ram timings and voltage manually. My Core i7 2700K Overclock - Are my settings, voltage and temps ok?
Previously, I overclocked the RAM with XMP to it's actual speed of 3 GHz, then ran the EZ overclocking prog in the UEFI and it gave me 4.41GHz for the able to dial down the voltages to reduce temps, while getting both the RAM and CPU Overclocks to play nice and most likely set a higher OC manually.

I dont know a ton about XMP, other than I have it and it boosted my RAM from 2133 to 2400. And that its supposedly optimal settings for memory overclock.
Hey, I'm new to overclocking and I got an 6700k with 3000mhz RAM. - To achieve the 3000mhz I have to enable XMP? - XMP can make my OC worse? (I few buttons and enable XMP, which will set your RAM frequency, timings, and voltage Or you can plug it in manually. Which is a lot of button clicks.
If you can, does your cas latency timings get worse? Assume you overclocked your ram to what it was advertised at, and your motherboard & cpu supported.
Interesting exercise, I never would have though using XMP vs. manual settings would make a difference. If you're up to it, it would be of interest to try the same thing using a cmd window and entering. Code: winsat mem. with and without XMP. Set the RAM as per the label for "without".
