Cameron Poe is an Army Ranger who was going to go home to his pregnant wife when he got into a fight with three men. He would kill one of them and the other two ran away with the knife they had and because of that he would be convicted of manslaughter. After eight years he would be paroled. He would be part of a group that's being transferred to another prison and flown in a special plane. While in flight a fight breaks out and two of the most dangerous criminals, Diamond Dog and Cyrus the Virus Grissom, would break out from their restraints and take over the plane. When the plane makes it's first stop Poe and friend who's a diabetic and who wasn't given his shot, and all the syringes were destroyed, try to get off but Grissom wouldn't let them. He then tries to alert the authorities but got away. Now the government is considering shooting the plane down but U.S. Marshall Vince Larkin thinks that it's a little hasty and believes that Poe is an ally. When Grissom leads them on a wild goose chase, Poe alerts them to where they are going.

This film didn't completely dissapoint me, but I felt that this was not the best Bruckheimer film (to say the least). Despite some great effects and action, this film doesn't have that great od a plot or dialogue. I don't want to go into the plot here, but one thing I can say is that only one good thing comes out of the whole jail in a plane plot- John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi. They play crazed criminals, one is a clever mastermind that has a nickname with a virus (Malkovich) and the other rides through three states with a woman's head as a hat and makes the Manson family look like Partridge family (Buscemi). Looking for those performances and action, you'll find great stuff. Looking for a bright plot and good character stuff, your really gonna hate this. I was midly annoyed by it. B
After seeing "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder," "Crimson Tide," "The Rock" and "Bad Boys," it seemed the Simpson/Bruckhiemer team could do no wrong. Not exactly true. I saw this movie once in the theater and I will never see it again. Why did one shoddily put together effort have to waste the acting talents of Ving Rahmes, John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi and Nick Cage? Why does hollywood feel the need to pump out this inane drivel summer after summer. Why do we keep going to see it? Luckily, Bruckheimer redeemed himself with the quasi-intelligent and surprisingly entertaining "Enemy of the State." Overall, If this movie is to be rented, make sure the better Simpson/Bruckheimer movies are all checked out first.
Con Air is entertaining in an extravagantly decadent sort of way. It just isn't a movie.
During the fight, Billy-Joe pulls a switch-blade on Cameron. Cameron responds by striking Billy-Joe in the nose, causing him to die from blunt-force trauma to the head. When Billy-Joe's friends flee the scene, one of them grabs the switch-blade off the ground. Therefore making a self-defence case difficult to prove. As the only witness Cameron had was his wife Trisha and even she ran off to get Dale the bartender before Billy-Joe pulled the knife, therefore she didn't witness what happened.
During his trial, Cameron refused to plead guilty. However, his lawyer gives him poor advice, stating that he risked getting 10 years if the case went to trial and he lost. But by admitting to it, he'd only get 4 years and serve maybe a year for good behaviour. For whatever reason, this wasn't a plea deal, but lawyer's advice. So when he plead guilty, the judge seemingly decided to make an example out of Cameron, believing that Cameron, being a former Army Ranger didn't think the normal rules of society applied to him and that he is trained to respond with deadly force, therefore making him a danger to society and therefore gave him a sentence of 7-10 years. a5c7b9f00b
