The Stihl 032 AV chain saw, like any chain saw, performs best when it has the right parts and the right care. So when the chain on your Stihl 032 AV needs to be replaced, knowing how to pick the right chain is critical to both your chain saw's performance and your safety.
8 Dec 2010 Cutting Chain and Guide Bar. Stihl recommends the use of their own chains. They designed the 031 AV to specifically use chains with a 0.375-inch pitch. The saw can accept guide bars of 14 to 20 inches in length.
If you are replacing a Stihl® chain, you can look at the numbers on the side of the chain to determine pitch, gauge, and other characteristics of the chain. 24 Oct 2003 Well i'm a happy camper, i just purchased my first chain saw, a Stihl 031 AV. I got it on Ebay. i did and could not really find any posts re: chains and bars. what is the recommnded length of bar for this saw? I use an 18 inch Stihl bar with .325 pitch chain on my 031AV, and I like this combination.

It hasn't got that much power, but 17" should be ok with a sharp chain and a gentle hand. Just been out measuring mine, and it is 16", which works - sort of ok.
