In the near future, the worst ghettos of Paris, France are literally walled off and among the worst is District B13. Controlled by the ruthless crime lord, Taha, a young righteous punk named Leïto is determined to bring him down. When the boss retaliates by kidnapping his sister, Lola, a rescue attempt by Leïto is destroyed by betrayal that gets him arrested and Lola kept in the clutches in Taha. Six months later, a crackerjack undercover cop named Damien is given a urgent mission: a neutron bomb has been stolen by Taha in District B13 which has an automatic timer function engaged and set to detonate in less than 24 hours. Now with time running out, Damien and Leïto must work together to find and stop the bomb, but there is far more to this crisis than any of the field players realize.
Set in the ghettos of Paris in 2010, an undercover cop and ex-thug try to infiltrate a gang in order to defuse a neutron bomb.
i just saw an advanced screening of this in l.a. for this organization genart. This movie from the very beginning is very captivating with the smooth shots that flow and literally "jump" with the characters is amazing. it keeps you in the movie the whole time and the action scenes are the most unique i've seen since matrix, but a whole lot cooler. the movie is in french and has subtitles but actually adds to the movies authenticity and cool factor. its great hearing the actors speak in their native languages and it ends up making you want to learn french. the two leads are quite the french hotties and martial arts masters. its a simple enough plot with some twists to it. and less than 90 minutes its well worth your money. i plan on owning this once its out on DVD and definitely am waiting to see it again in theatres when it does come out. i'm not an action movie buff at all but this movie definitely kept my attention with the quick wit and humor from the characters and the quick but focused action. it was really mindboggling stunts that i kept saying ohmigod to. so definitely well worth a watch and recommendation to your friends.
I watched the Thai DVD of this Luc Besson produced French action vehicle and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is sort of like a Parisian ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK-lite with the ghettos of Paris walled off from the main city in 2010. A cop is partnered with a criminal city ghetto resident to try and stop a nuclear bomb from blowing up in 24 hours.
You can really start to see the influence that ONG BAK has on Besson's new productions. There are some really good fights in here. Sadly, the film is lacking that one BIG fight at the end. Also included are some fantastic car and foot chase scenes reminiscent of his other productions like the TAXI series and the dreadful YAMAKASI. Lead Cyril Raffaelli (he was the smaller bleach blonde twin fighter in Jet Li's KISS OF THE DRAGON, another Besson production) is, quite possibly, one of the most amazing acrobats/martial artists working today. I'm excited to see what he will do next. Same goes for Belle who does some scary looking wire free climbing stunts. The script, by Besson and lead heavy Bibi Narceri, works well (like I said, it follows the EFNY mold pretty well) and they do inject a bit of social commentary in there. Well, as much as you can between guys kicking each other in the head. I will laugh when a US remake is announced.
Makes everything Hollywood has lately done in the action genre look clumsy, dull and stale. It is a short, nonstop stuntfest that, by going back to basics and placing them on the screen with simple, breathless stylishness, turns what is essentially a lowlife movie form into something one is not embarrassed to call "pure" cinema--all energy, movement and high kinetic wit.
The movements performed in District B13 are now known as 'Parkour'. David Belle is the father of this sort of movement which he recently invented in 2003. a5c7b9f00b
