We were shocked and, I must confess, angry when our own SIL colleague came and told us we would not be allowed to go to teach the course. He had checked into security in the area and said it was far too dangerous. I thought, Why can’t we just trust God and go anyway? Once again, our dreams of seeing the Tunebo Scriptures in use seemed to be dashed to the ground. Time after time, Paul and Edna faced obstacles and disappointments. In each of these, God showed them His grace was sufficient to carry them through. His strength was made perfect in their weakness. Have you been discouraged with lack of results in your ministry? This story shows how God’s grace is sufficient to carry you through the most difficult of circumstances. Whether it is waiting on God to see the results of your ministry, loss of a loved one, living in dangerous circumstances, or sending your children away to school, God will give you the strength to remain faithful to His call. God has sustained me with His all-sufficient grace for more than 50 years of ministry by miracles just when I needed them, answers to prayer, and specific messages from His word. My hope is that these stories will encourage you, that His grace can carry you through the difficult circumstances in life. The story shows how the Tunebo New Testament has been translated at high cost. The same is true of other New Testaments in other languages of Colombia and around the world. As with the Tunebos, in many of these places, there is still no church. The Word of God and other materials are available in Uwa/Tunebo and many languages for the next generation of missionaries to use to evangelize, disciple, and teach people to obey. My heart’s desire is that this book might help young people see the need to use the New Testaments that have been translated to reach people in their heart languages. I pray that our work and that of other translators will not be in vain so that one day there will be a vibrant church among the Tunebos and other groups, singing God’s praises and learning from His word each in their own language. I also pray that the book will motivate God’s people to pray that Satan’s bondage on the Tunebos and other groups like them would be broken so that they might receive freedom in Christ. I hope that reading the book will motivate those who send out young workers to pray for God’s grace to sustain them.
