BACKGROUND: Asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) has been recently described by international guidelines. A stepwise approach to diagnosis using usual features of both dis- eases is recommended although its clinical application is difficult. METHODS: To identify patients with ACOS, a cohort of well-characterized
for which the term Asthma COPD Overlap Syndrome (ACOS) is proposed. Rather than attempting a formal definition of ACOS, this document presents features that identify and characterize ACOS, ascribing equal weight to features of asthma and of COPD. A simple approach to initial treatment of ACOS is also included.
Precise prevalence of PBC–AIH overlap syndrome is unknown but approximately 10% of adults with AIH or PBC may belong in this overlap category [[67], [68], [69]]. Patients with PBC–AIH overlap syndrome might have a more severe disease with worse clinical outcomes compared to patients with PBC alone [70].
Treatment and outcome of the AIH-cholestatic overlap syndrome. Patients with the AIH-cholestatic overlap syndrome respond less well to conventional corticosteroid therapy than patients with classical AIH, and they respond as poorly as patients with AIH and large-duct PSC (2).
In clinical practice, separating asthma from COPD is difficult due to the overlapping features common to both diseases. Existing guidelines for asthma, such as the NIH, National Asthma Education and Prevention Program, Expert Panel Report 3, and COPD, such as both GOLD treatment guidelines and the consensus
25 Sep 2017 Abstract. Asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) or asthma-COPD overlap captures the subset of patients with airways disease who have features of both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although definitions of ACOS vary, it is generally thought to encompass persistent airflow
24 Sep 2015 Combination therapy with a LAMA and a LABA is a well-established treatment and is a reasonable approach for patients with more severe asthma or COPD or with overlapping conditions. However, given the ongoing debate on the safety of LABAs in people with asthma, any suspicion of an asthmatic
