13 Mar 2013 I have been using Kasenit for more than 12 years and have had no occasions where it has let me down. I'm sure that there are many good powders available. The procedures outlined here should be similar enough to enable you to understand slight differences in instructions. The Kasenit powder is a dull,
4 Mar 2014 I have a question regarding Kasenit and its use. The Kasenit instructions, when using Kasenit for case hardening by submerging / covering the part in Kasenit and heating / holding the heat for X - minutes to increase the depth of the carbon layer to the desired depth, the instructions state that the Kasenit
25 Mar 2008 A comparision of the MSDS of the 3 products show Kasenit and Quick hard to be essentially the same but the Cherry Red product is very different (ie no sodium or potassium ferrocyanide but rather The instructions call for heating to a red heat and applying the material in a process identical with Kasenit.

1006364292 Cherry Red Surface Hardening Compound is an easy way to harden soft, low carbon metals. Cherry Red in combination with high heat creates a
16 Nov 2004 their was some intrest in my offer to share smaller quantitys of Kasenit. It is kind of like a small group buy, only I bought the product before I thought about shareing it. I said I would include the instructions coppied from the can with each share but now I think I will just put it up here for everyone , and this way
30 Mar 2012 I notice compounds like Kasenite, and perhaps Cherry Red and others, have instructions of water quenching at the end of the dip. What does this do to oil quench steels like 4140, 4340, etc.??? Why would you use Kasenit on HARDENABLE steels? It was made for case hardening of steels that don't have
Apparently anything high in carbon will do - charcoal, sugar. I hear scorched leather chippings work well for the 'pack in a tin with the work' approach as the protein contains lots of nitrogen which gives a nitriding effect as well - that's a gunsmith's appropach I think. I keep meaning to experiment. Neil.
5 Sep 2012 I'm interested in trying case hardening but cannot get Kasenit or Cherry Red or any other specific case hardening compound (living overseas). In a how.
10 Oct 2010 It is pretty simple to use Kasenit, the only things needed are an oxy-acetylene torch (or a dedicated heat treatment oven) and a bucket of water: Application instructions for Low Alloy or Low Carbon Steel: Heat the work uniformly to a bright red (1650 – 1700 degrees F), remove any scale with a wire brush,
