The guideline recommends tricyclic antidepressants, gabapentin, lidocaine patch, and opioids for treating the pain of postherpetic neuralgia. Tricyclic antidepressants, the antiepileptic drug gabapentin, the lidocaine skin patch, and opioids were found to be effective in reducing pain.
