Ten years after a global economic collapse, a cold-blooded drifter traverses the scorched Australian outback on a mission to track down the men who stole his last remaining possession - his car. When he crosses paths with a badly wounded member of the gang, he takes the vulnerable, naïve young man along as his unwitting accomplice.
10 years after a global economic collapse, a hardened loner pursues the men who stole his only possession, his car. Along the way, he captures one of the thieves' brother, and the duo form an uneasy bond during the dangerous journey.
I'm writing this review for the average casual moviegoer. Unless you're someone who studies film or is an avid movie watcher who thrives on intellectual critiques - this film is going to be excruciating for you to watch. It's slow - nothing much is explained - and it's sorely lacking in story line for the average moviegoer who wants to be entertained or inspired.
This is one of those dark type movies that the geeky movie critic type people love. I have the utmost respect for those people mind you and like many of those people I thought the acting by the main character was fabulous - but, again, this review is for the person who simply goes to movies to be entertained and inspired.
It is definitely NOT that movie - trust me - and save your money.
If, however, you're the intense movie critic looking for something out of the norm then this is your genre. Enjoy.
David Michod has something here. He has crafted a film while not wholly original, is near perfectly executed. This guy does wonders in creating a palpably tense atmosphere: stark imagery, visceral characters and a raw narrative. The film's narrative is thread-bare but its rough simplicity carries it well from outset to conclusion. If you enjoyed Cormac McCarthy's The Road, I expect you will enjoy this as well. If none of the above mentioned move you in the slightest, you will at least be floored by Robert Paterson's performance - top notch! That glistening vampire of the Pacific NorthWest is much deserving of a supporting actor award. I confidently recommend this film - it will blow you away!
A dark, dreary and dull “Mad Max in Neutral" from director David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom") that tries to pass off its blunt narrative and repetitiveness as some sort of style.
