Three small groups of survivors of a zombie plague join forces to reach the ferry boat to a sanctuary that they are not sure that it does exist in the Catalina Island. Along their journey, they are hunted down by hordes of zombies and only a few of them survive.
Months after a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the American population, a small group of survivors fight their way cross-country to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina.
This movie is terrible. I've rated hundreds upon hundreds of movies on IMDb and written biographical info for actors, characters, directors, etc. On SyFy, I expect campy movies along the lines of Sharknado or Roboshark. It's hard to get a real robot shark or to spawn a tornado full of sharks but zombies are pretty easy to create. The bar has been set high with The Walking Dead and with World War Z as far as makeup and effects.
This movie could have been made by a group of audio/visual high schoolers. It's horrible. I hate to call movies horrible, but this one is by far one of the worst zombie movies ever made. From Cassie's sword never getting bloodied, no matter how many zombies she kills to the .50 machine gun firing with no ammo feeding into it to the atrociously CGI created fake blood. This movie is just one mistake after another and the acting is terrible.
For a cast of semi-talented actors to tank this bad, means the writer, director, producers and FX guys were talentless. I was expecting "campy" and bad but not so bad that I'd shiver at thought of ever watching it again.
The movie has absolutely no redeeming qualities. If I had Olivia Wilde walk up to me butt naked, carrying a pint of Guinness in one hand and this movie in the other hand, I'd kick her out of my house. It's worse than eating the decomposed ass out of a dead zombie cow.
What can I say, its a Syfy Original. Of course its not going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Some of the special effects are off, the zombies won't look like those you would see in a million dollar production. However, if you're a zombie fan, it's your usual run of the mill zombie story. I found it interesting that they introduce a new zombified animal. Its your usual people doing stupid stuff to get in situations where they're forced to fight off hordes of undead. Yet, it's one of the better Syfy original movies I've seen. Decent acting, decent execution aside from some flawed special effects and the usual story line....people in a zombie apocalypse trying to find a safe haven.
I do think Ving Rhames wasn't used well, but I have to say I respect him for taking on a low profile role such as this one. Once again, it is what it is. If you're one of the people who loath Syfy originals...then you probably won't give this a chance and if you do, I'm betting you won't like it too much. If you're like me, however, sometimes bored on a Saturday night...this isn't the worse thing on television or on DVD. I've seen far worse zombie movies with far worse special effects.
The government doesn't set off EMPs to stop zombies, it sets them off to stop people who have the zombie plague but have not yet turned into zombies. This was done because infected people were fleeing from urban areas by car, train, plane, etc., and were only spreading the plague faster. Having watched all of Europe and the Pacific Rim countries collapse in just days or weeks to the plague, the government used EMPs as a last, desperate measure. It didn't work. 646f9e108c
