The Starrett Wiggler/Center Finder S828 and four different attachments adapt to countless applications and are readily interchangeable. The attachments are snapped in the chuck without removing the collet nut and are clamped by a ball swivel-joint which permits adjustment to an angular position or true concentricity.
20 Oct 2005 Just received a Starrett center finder, no instructions can with it. How does this critter I just had a look in my Starrett catalogue - you have the "Wiggler or Centre Finder with Attachments" I use one of these alot, only thing different from CTP's method is that I run the attachments pretty fast, say 500-1000 rpm.
13 Feb 2004 A chance to excell! Obviously I'm new and need clarification. I bought a Starret wiggler and have a nebulous idea of how it's used. Could someone please simply explain how they're used and the reason for their existance? I can fix it in my mind then what it's use is. It has 4 ball socket inserts that I guess do
4 Apr 2011 Use a wooden pencil or other object to press on the side of the probe near the point until it turns true, with no wobble. When you press too hardyou will find out why this device is called a wiggler! Once you have the point centred, turn off the power and centre the mark on the work piece under the point.

This carriage stop clamps to the back edge of the ways to limit the travel of the carriage. Use it when you are turning to a shoulder.
12 May 2011 I have two Starret pointed tip edge/center finders and would like to know the proper use procedure. I've never found an "official" set of instructions for them but, used to try and use them while spinning. Trouble was Unfortunately, Starrett had since, changed the design and the "springy give" was gone.
A wiggler, edge-finder, or center-finder is a tool used in the spindle of a machine such as a mill. The device is used to accurately determine edges or markings and therefore the center of a workpiece or a previously machined feature during the set-up phase of a machining operation.
