Nov 6, 2016 The Nikon Df body allows for connection of most Non-AI lenses through the use of a newly designed Meter Coupling Lever, which has a hinged tab that folds down for connecting Non-AI lenses. AI lenses. Manual focus lenses with Aperture Indexing levers can be used on any D-SLR with few exceptions.
The Nikon D3100 lets you choose either auto or manual focus, but it doesn't have the small AF mode dial on the front of the camera as found on higher-end Nikon DSLRs. Instead, the switch on the lens must be used. Setting the switch to "M" puts the lens into manual focus mode, while "A" places it in autofocus mode.

Oct 31, 2011 Re: Manual focusing with D3100. While we're on the focusing discussion, I have a similar question. I too used to have a film SLR (back in 1979, the Minolta SRT-201 which I loved). It too had the focus circle in the lens. I never had a zoom lens, only a 50mm and a 135mm. When I wanted to focus on
The little yellow focus confirmation dot in the viewfinder still works, and though not always very precise, it's very helpful. Live view will give you precise focus. If you do a lot of manual focusing, consider a viewfinder magnifier such as the DK-21M, which helps a little bit. Ease of focusing will vary with the lens
Jan 6, 2016 Older lenses that were manual focus, like the legacy Nikon F-mount lenses, had brilliant optics and control, but no brain. Unlike modern lenses that are 'chipped', they couldn't digitally communicate with the camera, so there was no AF, and couldn't even speak automatically to the cameras to tell them what
Jan 21, 2013 I want to get a decent macro lens for my d3100. The field guide states I can get any Nikon F-mount lens and use it in manual. Does anyone do this? I'm thinking manual focus would be best for macro work anyhow, so I don't see any downside and the upside is I can afford much better glass this way. Also, as
This step assumes that you're using a lens like the Nikon DSLR kit lens. Use the same technique as when selecting a point during autofocusing: Looking through the viewfinder, press the Multi Selector on your D3100, D5100, or D7000 right, left, up, or down until the point you want to use flashes red.

Jan 29, 2011 I have a bunch of Nikkor Ai-s lenses that were formerly used for my Nikon FA film camera. I know by using manual lens both AF and programed AE of the camera will not be functioning and one can only use its “M" set to shoot. Can I still use its Live View function by manually focusing and zooming? 5.
