Bruce Greenwood stars as documentary photographer Thomas Veil who, in the course of one evening, seemingly has his whole existence erased, in the compelling one-hour drama Nowhere Man. It appears as if some mysterious and powerful entity has coerced Veil's family and friends into cooperating in a clandestine plan to annul every trace of him. Veil is all alone with no option but to begin a desperate, dangerous quest to find out how and why this has happened and most importantly, who is behind this torturous scheme.
I loved this show when it came out, but upon re-watching it on DVD this week, I was surprised to find a plot hole in the first 20 minutes. How do you get from being arrested by the police for harassing/assaulting a woman to being institutionalized at a sanitarium without a phone call, your right to an attorney, or a trial? This is not what happens in the real world. Tom should have been sitting in a cell for weeks waiting for a trial, not shipped to an institution that very day. A real person in his situation would have realized this from the start and not accepted this as the normal track in the judicial system.
I wish they would have thought this out better as I did enjoyed the show.
I was lucky enough to be able to get the whole series on VCD and am utterly hooked. More than halfway through the series and every episode has a different flavour. Like everyone else whose comments appear on this site, I really don't understand why it was cancelled - it's one of the best shows I've ever watched.
