A paranormal adventure story told through still image photography and audio.
Here's a new "cheapest film ever" wheeze: THE ARC OF METHUL is told via a series of still images, each on screen for a few minutes at a time, typically consisting of a couple of actors in costume in front of a CGI generated background. Audio narration then plays out over the top of the images.
It's an interesting way to make a movie, but the end result is a failure rather than a success because it's just too boring. In the end it's neither a movie nor an audio work, and less than either. The film itself has a relatively interesting storyline that mixes paranormal elements with film noir style, but in the end it feels more like a lame student project than anything "real".
Sylvia hires private detective Markus to find a specific candle to prevent the summoning of Methul and the end of the world. They get the help of a video game player. The film is 53 minutes long and the story is told with still photos, meaning Gumby has smoother moves. It is a slide-show with narration. How exciting is that? The story was so-so, and on the campy side. The line readers were not convincing, especially Markus, the lead. It wasn't overly bad, but I have nothing to really compare it to other than those 30 minute Internet infomercials that I hate. Must be a film school project.
