Ash curled up tighter under the thin blanket. It was cold and hunger gnawed at him from the inside. They had only eaten a cup each of a really bland soup and a hard piece of bread. It couldn’t have been enough to get Rend’s stomach full either.
Moving a bit he glanced over the edge of the blanket. No, they were still there. If they hadn’t been he would’ve dared to crawl over to the fireplace and put another small stick on the fire.
He was delusional. Must be. Rend had ignored them since he took him in this morning. Hadn’t seemed to see them at all. So Ash had also ignored them. Pretending that he couldn’t see them. Glancing to the left he could see Rend, still curled up in a corner. Sleeping silently. Ash moved his head further under the blanket and closed his eyes.
It was a young woman and a small boy. Transparent. They were just staring at him, watching. He couldn’t sleep. He wouldn’t be able to sleep if he didn’t do anything.
Sitting up he stared right back at them. The woman smiled and opened her mouth. She was speaking but he couldn’t hear a word of what she was saying.
Shaking his head Ash touched his own ears while watching the woman. She just kept on smiling and talking and the boy was running in circles around him. Laughing. They were looking at him, but did they really see him? Probably not. He took the blanket and crawled the 4 ft between him and Rend. They followed.
The woman watched him now. She wasn't talking anymore. The boy was pulling at his sleeve, at least trying too, as Ash put the cover he had been using over Rend. The boy looked a lot like Rend. He wanted to ask Rend about the boy but he didn’t know if he should.
Throwing Rend’s face a glance Ash crawled over the fireplace and the dying fire. He saw how the woman and the boy watched him as he put a couple of sticks into the fire. He was about to crawl back to Rend and curl up next to him for the body heat when he noticed a half burnt stick laying next to the fire. Would they understand if he wrote to them? It couldn’t hurt to try.
They stared at him as he wrote ’Who are you?’ on the floor next to the fireplace. He tried to point at the text on the floor but they ignored him. Sighing he curled up on the floor next to the fireplace with the half burnt stick. Of course.
Doodling, he watched the fire. Not bothering anymore with the woman and the boy. He couldn’t really do anything about them anyway. He could ask Rend about them, but not now.
Glancing down at what he had drawn on the floor he frowned deeply. Ash remembered it from somewhere. He wasn’t quite sure from where. Something was wrong with it as well. He wasn’t sure what though. He tried again.

Rend stared. He was too dumbfounded to do anything else. Frowning Rend sat up and moved the two blankets way from his lap.
Faint rays of the morning sun were finding their way in through the holes of the dirty curtains covering the kitchen window. The fire he had started before falling asleep was dead, burned out, and all over his kitchen walls were strange drawings. Even the floor was covered. Everything. There was almost no clean surface. It creeped him out. "Wha’cha doin’?"
Ash stopped drawing and glanced at him. With a woolgathering gaze. That creeped Rend out even more.
The shirt Ash was wearing were full of soot and his face had black splotches. Had he spent the entire night drawing? Why? What kind of a lunatic had he brought into his home?
Since he didn’t get a response Rend raised an eyebrow and Ash shrugged. Looking back at the drawings on the wall, his eyes focusing more. Did this have to do with Ash’s lost memories. Rend tilted his head and also looked at the wall. The wall was too far away for him to see anything. "I...I remember this from a my dream, but something is wrong with it."
Rend stood up and stepped over to Ash to have a look at what he had drawn on the wall. Ash didn’t seem to notice, he kept watching the wall and absentmindedly continued talking. "...I wish I had my notes."
A five pointed star with a circle around it, then some symbols around the outside of the circle and then another circle. Rend frowned, he had seen something similar before. He just couldn’t remember where. "Your notes?"
With a shake of his head Ash frowned and jumped slightly, Rend figured that Ash hadn’t noticed him walking up at all. He had been really immersed in his thoughts. "My what?"
