Chapter 2 -Unrobed
The room was silent for a long while again. Gil was fidgeting next to her and to her surprise the young child-of-the-swamps seemed to be fidgety as well. There was something off about the boy that she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Well, other than the fidgeting. It could just be a youngster thing even though she had never seen a nervous person-of-the-swamps before. Since it seemed to be in their nature to be calm, collected and never ever rash.
Glancing over at Gil she noted that he was staring at the youngster again. It annoyed her and she was going to mention it to him later. When they didn’t have a crowd watching them. "Ah, yes, Ichkah'kekchellselsa will escort you. You may take your leave tomorrow after the evening rituals."
Cal almost laughed out loud when she saw Gil’s expression at that reply. He must’ve understood what the Elder had said. His eyebrows where drawn together in annoyance and his lips were moving like he was trying to talk behind his closed mouth. Eyes sparkling with excitement.
Looking over at the Elders she bowed again. Gil followed her lead and bowed his head as well. "We thank you, but we are in dire need of hurrying. The princess was kidnapped from us over 4 days ago and she might already be dead."
The Elders frowned at her. She figured that they must’ve thought that she was a bit rude. However, She wouldn’t have to wait for their reply. "I just need to go and fetch some of my things."
The whole room turned and looked at the youngster with varying degrees of surprise. The boy was indeed a strange child-of-the-swamp- he had spoken out of line and was being very rash. Cal tilted her head. Something was definitely going on with him.
Glancing at the Elders Cal realized that it seemed like most of them were relived. Had they wanted to get rid of him or where they just happy that he wouldn’t oppose the choice of the village? Was the boy someone that would go against what his people wanted?
Frowning Cal watched the boy. Maybe they shouldn’t be brining him then. Maybe he needed to stay to help the village grow up. "Great, we to roll out."
Cal strangled a snort before she had let it out. Gil really needed to practice the language of the-people-of-the-swamp before he said anything in a crowd like this. The Elders were staring at Gil and the boy looked slightly amused. "What Gil meant to say was. ’We’ll come with you to pack, we’re ready to move out right now."
The boy nodded and then turned to his Elders making a very deep bow. They bowed back, their expressions ranging from neutral to angry. Only one looked angry and Cal wasn’t sure why. Not why only one was angry. More like why that person was angry at all. Sure, things happened quicker than what they were used to, that was no reason to be angry when what they had already decided was what was going quicker. Cal shook her head. She didn’t have to understand it. "Then take care of Gilbert’engel and Calaith’morningstar, Ichkah'kekchellselsa. Make our ancestors proud."
The boy nodded again and turned around. He started to leave the room so Cal made a quick bow towards the Elders and then she followed after the boy. Gil towing behind them.
Even though the boy had really short legs he walked fast. He was almost running. Like he was expecting the Elders to change what they decided. Gil caught up with her and striding next to her he whispered. "Are all of them this short?"
First off why whisper? None of them very likely knew common. Secondly, that was something Gil should’ve already known. They had studied the-people-of-the-swamp their first semester. "Yes and you know that."
Gil nodded and watched the back of the boy as they hurried down the corridors quickly. "Yeah, I just never excepted them to be this short. He’s like, a head shorter than me and I’m a head shorter than you." Gil looked towards her stomach."He’s like, below your chest area."
Cal wasn’t sure if she should be offended or amused. Gil had always been a very strange person and that was partly why she liked him. Maybe he had just forgotten the word. Common wasn’t his first language after all. "You mean 'stomach hight'?"
Nodding Gil looked back at they boy as he entered a room, he left the door open so they both stepped in after him. "Would it be rude of me if I asked if I could pet his head?"
Snorting she petted Gil’s head and looked around in the room. It was very dusty and full of books. Gil was looking around as well and his eyes were sparkling. The poor guy loved books but he hadn’t been able to read since he had been kicked out of the university. "Maybe that’s something you should ask when you know him better."
Gil nodded again and he was rolling his thumbs looking down at a book laying next to his feet. He really wanted to pick up the book and look inside it but he was trying to stop himself. Cal chuckled and looked over at the boy-of-the-swaps. He had removed his tunic and he was redoing his hair. Removing the scarf and braiding his hair around his head.
That would probably take a while but he looked determined to do it before they left. His full lips pouting and his thin eyebrows furrowed. He looked cute. His pale green yellow eyes contrasted a lot with his dark purple skin and even darker purple hair. He looked more like a girl than Cal did. She snorted at herself and looked closer.
The-boy-of-the-swamps had the same expression she had seen on her own face, reflected in Gil’s eyes. All those years ago when Gil had been kicked out of the university and he had asked her if she wanted to come along with him. Happy to be given a way out of a life she hadn’t wanted. Thrilled that there was someone who would actually think of her and scared that her life would change, that she was setting out on uncharted territory.
Scratching the back of her neck she looked away. The-boy-of-the-swamp had caught her staring and she wasn’t so sure what to say. She didn’t know if they considered it rude or not. She knew that most of the people she knew found it rude though. "Oh!"
Turning her head the other way she saw that Gil had picked up one of the books and was flipping through the pages. Excited about something he had found in it. She couldn’t see what the cover said but it must’ve been written in common.
Glancing over at the boy she raised her eyebrows at his amused expression. Cal smiled to herself. Even though she felt slightly possessive over Gil it felt good when other people saw what made her like him as well.

Gale did not like the way those two were looking at Ikky. Well, yeah, right now one of them wasn’t staring at Ikky, he was staring in one of Ikky’s books, but for how long would he be doing that? He would probably start looking at Ikky like that again when he had lost interest in the book. Which would most likely be very soon. Ikky’s books didn’t have many pictures.
Sighing to himself Gale stepped out of Ikky’s head and picked up the tunic that Ikky had discarded on a chair. Everybody, well except Ikky, was staring at him as he pulled on the tunic.
Ikky was busy leaning against the closet. Looking pale and ready to vomit. He wouldn’t though. Ikky hadn’t eaten enough today to have anything to throw up. Should’ve gotten used to Gale jumping in and out of his head already anyway. "Don’t forget to eat something before you go anywhere Ikky."
Snorting Ikky went back to braiding his hair. He was still leaning against the closet though. Looking pale. Gale shook his head and looked over at the woman and the man.
Moving a strand of hair from his face to behind one of his horns. Gale glared at the pair. The woman looked ready to faint in disgust. The man just stared at him in wonder. "Are you a demon? I’ve heard that dark elves summons demons."
The man sounded as bright as he looked. Gale rolled his eyes and walked closer to the woman. She took a step backwards. Closer towards the man. Like he could protect her. What could a mere human do? "Gale stop intimidating them and put some more clothes on if you’re staying outside. That tunic isn’t covering up much."

Ichkah'kekchellselsa gave Gale a stern look as he finished his braid and stepped away from the closet. Gale shrugged, left Calaith’morningstar alone and strode over to the closet Ichkah'kekchellselsa had just left.
Sighing Ichkah'kekchellselsa almost wished that Gale had stayed in his head. But he never got what he wanted. Gale was there to make sure of that.
Opening the door to a cupboard Ichkah'kekchellselsa glanced over at the two people he was going to guide. "How did you two travel here?"
Gilbert’engel and Calaith’morningstar shared a glance. The woman nodded towards their feet and then Gilbert’Engel answered. "We walk."
Ichkah'kekchellselsa glanced over at Calaith’morningstar. That meant that she was pretty powerful and trained the magic arts of her people. However her that meant that she was weak. He could spot faint bags under her eyes.
Tilting his head he took out the dusty pieces of his fathers black armor and placed it on the centre table. He had never actually thought that he would use it after it had been handed to him. To his surprise he found that his heart was beating faster. He was excited.
Ichkah'kekchellselsa nodded over to small table next to the wall. "If we’re going further into the swamp to look for your princess you won’t be able to continue walking for long, the swamp is alive. Take the knife on that table and pour a tad of your blood in one of the bowls. One each."
Gilbert’engel put the book down on the floor where he had taken it from and took a step towards the small table. It surprised Ichkah'kekchellselsa that the human had understood that much of what he had said. Or was he just walking towards where Ichkah'kekchellselsa had pointed. Sure that he would be able to figure out what Ichkah'kekchellselsa had actually said when he got there? It would be easy to travel with him. Calaith’morningstar on the other hand.
"Gil, don’t." She was looking appalled at the entire idea as she continued. "We can continue to water-walk. I can handle it. I’ve got the best magical energy regain in my class."
Ichkah'kekchellselsa wanted to roll his eyes but that would probably not be polite. Not that she was being very polite. How fast she could regain her mana didn’t really matter if she had to little of it to begin with. "Hey, it’s our job to keep you alive while you’re here so either you do as we tell you to do or you go home and let your precious princess die. Gale was looking at them all as he tried to pull on one of Ichkah'kekchellselsa’s pants.
Ichkah'kekchellselsa pulled his eyebrows together. Those were going to rip. Maybe he should consider getting some pants that weren’t so tight now when Gale was wearing his clothes as well. Oh wait. "Hey, don’t rip my clothes. Change your size."
Ichkah'kekchellselsa glanced back at Calaith’morningstar to address her. Tell her that he was fine with whatever she decided to do. Even though he knew that Gale was right. She wasn’t looking at them though. She was glancing between the floor and the small table.
Gilbert’engel was gazing at him so Ichkah'kekchellselsa looked down at the floor as well. His face feeling a bit warm.
