When Joan Wilder is abducted while on a trip along the Nile, her boyfriend, Jack Colton, and pal Ralph rush to rescue her and retrieve a fabled jewel.
This is the sequel to "Romancing the Stone" where Jack and Joan have their yacht and easy life, but are gradually getting bored with each other and this way of life. Joan accepts an invitation to go to some middle eastern country as a guest of the sheik, but there she is abducted and finds her- self involved with the "jewel". Jack decides to rescue her with his new partner Ralph. They all go from one adventure to another... What is the story of this "jewel"?
The film disappoints a bit, but what sequel doesn't? Douglas and Turner still have on-screen chemistry, and that carries the movie. Movies made decades ago are usually interesting in illuminating the mores of the times in which they were made. While by 1985 political correctness had reared its ugly head, it did not totally dominate Hollywood yet, so it was fun to go back to the days when one was allowed to make Moslems the movie villains. And even to mock them. This script would never be green-lighted today, when all movie villains must be white.
The sequel to romancing the stone is rather disappointing.
The plot is shallow, humour is dry, and the whole atmosphere of the first is just not there.
I wish those responsible for its production could see that and realize that this was not meant to be as memorable as the first.
Nevertheless if you decide to watch this film, it is not what you call boring and overall it is just pleasant watching Douglas and Turner getting into trouble with their unexpected friend De Vito adding a bit of fun tone in the process.
