inlet guide vanes. Fixed or variable vanes, also known as stators, located in front of the first stage of the compressor of a gas turbine engine. These guide vanes direct the air onto the compressor at the correct angle. Also called intake guide vanes.
The purpose of the inlet guide vanes in a gas turbine is to direct the air-flow to the compressor. Since inlet guide vane failures can plague the functioning of the entire gas turbine, they should be precisely manufactured from a high-quality material.
Introduction. Inlet Guide Vanes (IGVs) are used to deliver a defined preswirl for the following rotor and can be used to adjust the stage's aerodynamic performance. Using Variable Inlet Guide Vanes. (VIGVs) the preswirl can be varied in a wide range in order to control the compressor's operating point. Figure 1 shows a VIGV
Variable Inlet Guide Vanes from GE Power Generation help direct and control inlet airflow to optimize engine performance. Read the benefits here.
Compressed Air Best Practices® (CABP) Magazine recently caught up with Rick Stasyshan, the Compressed Air and Gas Institute's (CAGI) Technical Consultant, and John Kassin of Cameron to discuss variable inlet guide vanes (IGV). The following interview describes how centrifugal compressor efficiency can be
Variable Inlet Air vanes help guide inlet airflow to maximize engine performance. • Assembly located in front of Low Pressure Compressor (LPC), consisting of 43 stationary leading-edge vanes and variable trailing flaps (rotate -10 to +60 degrees).
You need to be careful in understanding the significance of the variable guide vanes (VGVs) being variable. You could think of them as a bit like venetian blinds - when they they are most open they present the least obstruction to the air flow, much as you get the most light through a set of blinds when they
The purpose of the inlet guide vane system is to direct gas-flow toward the expander wheel at the correct angle while also providing control of mass flow.
