An Overdrive is an attack unique to a single character, that not even through the Sphere Grid can anyone else learn. It is sort of like a "charged" mode -- the character will unleash an attack more powerful than what is normal.

5 Aug 2016 Overdrive Modes aren't exactly spelled out for players new to FFX, not like some of the other, more talked about topics such as Celestial Weapons or Dark Aeons. At some point in the game though you'll start getting weird messages during combat saying such-and-such learned Overdrive Mode
