OK this will be longer than usual. Out of sheer fascination that Nicholas Cage would do such a role , I decided to catch this film on Netflix. Also, for clarification I did in fact read the first two books of this series around their release time owing to what seemed to be an almost moth to the flame obsession over it by the religious community. this review will deal with the religious aspect and the film production aspect in separate terms.

First the religious,

I get it , Hollywood and indeed the average secular consumer of film has through either overt or subtle statement declared that the area of our spirituality being discussed is not too welcome. Drawing on the fact that film is a culture of individual expression you cannot be surprised at the cultural behavior. However , authors enjoy prerogative when targeting their audiences.I will not personally comment on the internal religious motivations of this series authors Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim La Haye. Look it is a well known religious sentiment that use of the bible that results in profit is ..shaky at best with God. I would not put my self in that spot , but as I said writers have prerogative. These two authors decided for whatever reason that the end times material was a great background for their story. Just as North Korea is not going to tell me I can only watch film it approves of (The Interview) the same is true for activist groups.

Enough of the Personal Opinions ,

The film itself came in one notch down before production , for those of you who rail that this film is preachy I encourage you to temper that by screening Left Behind (2000), the same series filmed by Actor and Christian Activist Kirk Cameron (yeah , the guy from Growing Pains). A hour of that film and you will have a new opinion of this one.

What is different. The movie is updated by it's script writers to a modern context, smart phones debuted after left behind was published. The Placing of Nicholas Cage as Ray Steele is nothing short of brilliance. I am not saying that he acted brilliantly , I am saying that he was the right (and possibly only) actor to be able to pull this off. Cage's acceptance of almost any role has been joked about and cracked on for a while and it's true he is fairly open on lead roles , Left Behind should show movie fans why Nicholas Cage is a good actor over all. His one strength is that no matter the subtext of the character he is able to deftly reach the core of said character on the mark every single time. He has made a career of it in fact.

The production value of this film is Average , it did suffer low finance and stands at a small loss to date. Director Vic Armstrong was in his sophomore outing in feature film , Having directed only Army of One (1993) for movie screens prior. Some of the effects are hampered by this low budget clearly. people being pulled to heaven looked more stylish in This Is The End (2013), than in this film.

Reviewing film is the process of reviewing a presented product or idea , And yes bias on the individual viewers level is a acceptable because it is a individual end use product , but when reviewing one must consider that some may not have seen the film and should carefully avoid discouragement based on personal opinion. I found the movie to be an average view not one I regret but maybe not one ill see over and over again. Most importantly I would say watch it and decide for yourself.

I don't mind a movie with a message, but when you push it too hard, the message becomes propaganda. This movie is a 90-minute ad for the Catholic church, and we all did start using ad-blockers at some point, right?
The film’s appeal is largely dependent on Cage; Left Behind is a batshit-crazy Cage cult classic of a radically new stripe.
