It all began with the forging of the great rings:
Three were given to the elves; immortals, wisest and farest of all beings.
Seven were given to the dwarflords; great miners and craftsmen in their mountainhalls.
And nine, nine rings were given to the race of men who desired power above all else...
But they were all of them desived, for another ring was made. In the fires of mount doom, the dark lord sauron forged a master ring, to control all others. And in to this ring he forged his cruelity, his malice and his will to dominate all other living things...
