When her boyfriend dumps her, Emily, a spontaneous woman in her 30s, persuades her ultra-cautious mom to accompany her on a vacation to Ecuador. At Emily's insistence, the pair seek out adventure, but suddenly find themselves kidnapped. When these two very different women are trapped on this wild journey, their bond as mother and daughter is tested and strengthened while they attempt to navigate the jungle and escape.
I'm sure part of the reason for the low IMDb score is because a lot of people don't like Amy Schumer. I didn't want to see this movie as I am in the group that doesn't like her - I find her coarse & vulgar but the movie I wanted to see with a friend wasn't playing anymore and she wanted to see this.
While it was better than I expected, however, it still is a bad movie. While it's listed as a comedy-action movie it really wasn't very funny, however it did have a lot of action including a guy getting stabbed in the throat with a spear, someone else is attached by a dog but thankfully we didn't see much gore.
Emily (Amy)works in a clothing store but is fired 5 minutes into the movie because she horrible at her job. Her boyfriend breaks up with her right before their trip to Ecuador and since none of her friends want to go she invites her boring, stay at home mother because she happens to find a photo album of her mother having fun "at one time".
They go, Emily meets a hot guy, hot guy is part of a plot to kidnap them for ransom and they are taken to Columbia where they manage to escape and they have to deal with numerous perils, blah, blah, blah. They meet some strange characters on the way all the while trying to get to the U.S. consulate in Bogota.
The person that gave this 5 stars must be related to Schumer because even Sharknado has a better IMDb score than this movie. While it wasn't the worst movie I ever saw, it certainly doesn't deserve 5 stars. I wouldn't waste your money, wait for it to come out on Netflix.
Awful. I have always loved Goldie Hawn but this is a movie she should never, ever have agreed to make. Cringeworthy, repulsive subject matter, bad writing. Awful. I still love Goldie Hawn, she made a bad judgment call doing this awful movie. I have enjoyed her movies, she is so gifted and funny. But oh my gosh, why did she agree to make this very bad embarrassing nightmare of a movie.
The movie’s mother-daughter jokes are like firecrackers with damp fuses.
