==============================
I was pretty puritan and barely drunk much in my undergrad. It never did for me when I kept attending the "official" events. Meeting people through clubs is friendd, because you have a common interest to talk about. I personally was completely uninvolved in year one, and the one club I joined turned out to be. We will make new friends and make friends ubc about other cultures in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Ask people if they want to get dinner in the caf together. I'd start every morning at a different coffee shop rotating between 5-6 around your area. Huge lectures get a lot smaller when you sit at the front, and you won't be starved for seatmates. Every time you post an ad, you have to make a top-level comment explaining your relationship mzke the thing you're advertising. Talk about course work, make a few jokes, bam you're now friends. Ask the Barista what's going on in the area. Clubs that functionally only hold events are rather impersonal unless you're in the exec clique. In first-year lectures, nobody knows anybody, so just sit next to whoever and introduce yourself on the first day. Not in feiends of my grades, but mostly social life. We will have fun meeting people. Cool activites and loads of time to meet new people. Let's not waste a good day indoor, let's enjoy what beautiful British Columbia has. There are a bunch of programs subsidized by the provincial gov't and they'll be full of anglophones and possibly Montreal newcomers like yourself.Montreal is definitely by far the friendliest and warmest city, demographically speaking. Thing is to treat alcohol just like you treat clubs: not as "the thing" that gets you friends, but as a tool to unwind, have fun and meet people. Is it normal to join my myself? I've thought about sports clubs. The good thing about coffee shop is that you'll meet people you're likely to see there the next day!From all the advice I've been getting from my family members and teachers they all tell me that clubs are how to make friends.
