The story begins with a normal, bumbling everyday watchdog beagle named Shoeshine who gets exposed to a substance that gives him the powers of a superhero. And not to mention the ability the speak during an accident. He is adopted by a security guard - an ex-cop, who's a widower with a 12-year-old moody son, Jack Unger. Shoeshine uses his superpower to protect his love and the citizens of Capitol City from the evil Simon Barsinister. Underdog dedicates himself to good, quickly becoming revered as a superhero, but ultimately it will take the combined efforts and understanding of Underdog, Jack, Dan, Molly, and Polly to defeat Barsinister and save Capital City from destruction.
A bomb-sniffing beagle is fired from the mayor's office for a faux pas. That night a mad scientist dognaps him and injects him with an elixir. The dog escapes, but now has superpowers. He's adopted by a security guard - an ex-cop, who's a widower with a moody teen son, Jack. The boy discovers that the dog, named Shoeshine by dad, has super powers, but it's their little secret. While Underdog saves people in distress, the mad scientist and his underling continue their plot to catch him and take over the city. There's also a girl Jack likes who has a dog that Shoeshine takes a shine to. Will every dog have his day?
I was able to go with two dog-loving members of my family to see Underdog last night and it was a treat. My mom and my cousin have been talking about going to see this ever since we first saw the commercial. I was the only one who remembered the cartoon, but we all think the beagle is so cute. He even rhymes when he talks, just like in the cartoon. The film was nice. All three of us liked it and the kids at the movie with us seemed excited.
The actor from My Name was Earl is the voice and very funny. The dogs are adorable. If you love dogs and animal movies or liked the cartoon, you should see it. It's a fun, stress-free movie.
I haven't seen the cartoons that this movie is based on before. Seems based on the ratings it didn't ruin for me as I didn't have any expectations based on the comic strips from the 60's and can't say how it was changed.
I sure did like the movie. I think it is one of those movies that are great for the whole family. Kids will obviously love it. They are the main targets for it. It is about a talking flying dog who is friends with a kid and saves people.
Yet adults get to enjoy it too. Loving dogs and watching this cute beagle sure helps. But it is also has a pretty fun written dialogue that can make one laugh.
It also has a great star power. Peter Dinklage as the mad scientist and Patrick Warburton as his dump assistant absolutely owned it. The acting was perfect and they brought me to laugh. Especially Cad with his Thesaurus. Alex Neuberger seems to not have gone on with acting, but he sure must have great memories from being in this movie.
Definitely a movie I recommend to select when your 5 year old wants to see something/
Underdog! Rest assured, there is no superhero cliche left unchewed; they even manage to slide in a "Lady and the Tramp" homage while they're at it.
