Bruce's mysterious past and the answer to why the radiation had this effect becomes revealed to him as his birth father David Banner intervenes with hopes to continue experimenting on him.I am a comic book movie fan and I went to watch them all. People aren't
satisfied that the Hulk didn't have enough action, but COME ON, how
much action do you want to see? The movie was 2 and a half hours and
there was about one full hour of action. In fact after a while you
wouldn't even see Eric Banna, it was only the Hulk. I love talks more
than action but I also liked the action too. The Hulk may not be my
favorite super hero but this movie is my favorite so far.What happened here ? I'll tell you what happened here : Ang Lee.Action Fans do not want some artsy fartsy rendition of Pop Americana.Ang Lee would be fine if you want something in the likes of The Ice Storm,but for Hulk he just sucks.Most of the people I have talked to that have seen this have the same problems,and are as follows : # 1 - Hulk Dogs.Hulk Dogs ??? Okay I can live with that......but a Poodle ? What genius thought of that idea ? # 2 - Bruce Banner's Dad was a sick, twisted,murdering individual....not a sick,twisted,murdering super villain.Who's brilliant idea was THAT one I wonder ? # 3 - Transitions every few seconds for no apparent reason.Hey Ang,you're making a movie about a comic,not a movie INTO a comic ! Boy did those grate on my nerves.... # 4 - The apparent lack of any coherent direction.Someone tell me exactly where the direction was in this picture ??? This movie presented itself as a collage of unfinished ideas slapped together with all the precision of a first year film student.Horrible. # 5 - The ending.The worst ending I have ever seen in a superhero movie aside from the inept low budget Captain America from the nineties.Can you say anti-climatic ??? How about boring ? # 6 - The pacing.Before we even see the Hulk the story moves along at a snails pace.I almost fell asleep.Alright,now that I've said what drove me absolutely batty about the trainwreck called " Hulk " let me say what was done correctly.Unlike alot of other people I had no problem with the way The Hulk looked.I think that he was probably the most realistic character this side of Golem in any CGI movie ever made.What was he doing stuck in such a boring movie like this ? I also liked the character of General Ross.Nice performance there Sam.Great as usual.That's what was so sad about this movie as a whole : it had great actors, but it lacked any coherent direction or intriguing story.Someone should have told Avi Arad that you need to find a good writer and director as well......Truth be told I hope there is a sequel.Why ? Maybe they'll get it right the second time around.As it stands now,the t.v. show with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno was a whole lot better.My favorite comic character flushed down hollywood's toilet.What a waste. I hated Ang Lee's other movies,including the goofy Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.I guess this makes it official,I hate all his movies,and Ang,you couldnt direct your way out of a wet paper sack.How about you retire and leave The Hulk franchise alone ? Batman had Joel Schumacher,but at least that was three movies in ! Thanks for destroying what could have been a great franchise.The real star is the splendid computer-generated Hulk, though his King Kong-like story is compromised by the need to keep him around for the inevitable sequel.In an accident at a laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, research scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) is exposed to gamma radiation and nanomeds and somehow survives but discovers that he turns into a hulking, green monster whenever he gets angry. Pursued by his father (Nick Nolte) who wants to continue experimenting on Bruce, by U.S. Army General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Sam Elliott) who believes that Bruce is a threat to national security, and by Major Glenn Talbot (Josh Lucas) who wants to profit from the Hulk's strength and regenerative ability, Bruce tries to control his anger, prevent the transformation, and simply stay alive. The Hulk is a fictional character in Marvel Comic series, The Incredible Hulk, created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. The screenplay for Hulk was written by American screenwriters James Schamus, John Turman, and Michael France. Bruce and his lab partner (and girlfriend) Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), daughter of General Ross, were experimenting with nanomeds, tiny lifeforms that they hoped could be used to heal wounds. Unfortunately, everything (e.g., frogs) on which they've tested the nanomeds have ended up exploding. Bruce is the only one to have survived exposure. When Bruce's father David, also a research scientist whose genetic experiments were shut down when it was learned that he was experimenting upon himself, realized that his wife was pregnant, he feared what he may have passed to his child. Banner realized that his son had to be tested, and the results showed that Bruce had the potential to not be completely human (in his eyes). As the Hulk becomes increasingly enraged, he increases in size. Some of the special features on the original DVD and the Blu-ray/DVD explain it a bit. Ang Lee wanted to reflect that idea, that the more rage Bruce feels, the greater his power becomes. Lying unconscious at the bottom of the lake, Hulk survives the gamma bomb, but David is destroyed. As he rises to the surface, Bruce remembers his father as the man who lovingly tucked him into bed when he was four years old, kissing him and wishing him a good sleep. One year later, Betty is working in the lab when she gets a phone call from her father. He tells her that some loonies have reporting seeing something green and asks her if, by some chance Bruce survived the explosion and she found out about him, would she tell him. "No," Betty replies, adding that she loved Bruce and that she's the last person she would want Bruce to contact. Far off in a South American rain forest, Bruce is shown working as a doctor in a medical camp. When some soldiers attempt to steal their medical supplies, Bruce confronts them with the warning in Spanish, "You're making me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!" In the final scene, as the camera pans through the trees, the Hulk's roar can be heard. Yes, in one scene we see two security guards walking towards the camera and having a conversation. The old guy with a mustache doing most of the talking is Stan Lee, who is the Hulk's comic book creator. The other guy, the big guy, is Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the 1970s TV series. There are also multiple references to the comic books. General Ross's helicopter is named "T. Ross", referencing his comic book nickname; Hulk's first appearance is grey rather than green, referencing his first comic book incarnation; the character "Benny", who appears in the comic books, is mentioned in a conversation between Bruce and Betty; Bruce's father's name is changed to David Banner, which was Bruce's name in the TV series; and David Banner takes on several attributes of Hulk's comic-book nemeses throughout the film. No, but it was originally going to be part of a trilogy. James Schamus revealed in 2014 the unfinished sequel took place at a Native American reserve.
