Mer än underbart. Jag ryser.
Det borde vara det mest underbara jag hört någon gång.
Det är obeskrivligt.
''How are you doing out there tonight?
Thats good... Thats good.
This is a.. When I was growin' up, me and my dad used to go out all the time. Over almost, anything.
But, I used to have really long hair.
Way down pass my shoulders.
I was seventeen or eighteen. Oh man he used to hate it.
And we got to where the fight so much that I, that I spent a lot of time out of the house.
And in the summertime it wasn't so bad, 'cause it was warm and, the friends where out.
But in the winter. I remember standing downtow, and it would get so cold, and when the wind would blow, I had this phone booth to stand in.
And I used to call my girl, like for hours at the time, just talking to her all night long.
And finally I got my nerve up to go home. And I'd stand there in the driveway, and he'd wait for me in the kitchen.
And I tucked my hair down and my collar.
And I walked in, and he called me back to sit down with him.
And the first thing he'd always asking was
What did I think I was doing with myself?
And the worst part of it was I could never explain it to him.
I remember I got in a motorcykle accident once. And I was up late in bed when a barber came in,
and he cut my hair.
And man, I remember telling him
I hated him, and I would never ever forget him.
And he used to tell me:
''Man, I can't wait 'til the army gets you. When the army gets you they gonna make a man out of you. They gonna cut all that hair of,
and they'll make a man out of you.''
And this was in, I guess 68, and there was a lot of guys in the neighbourhood goin' to Vietnam.
I remember the drummer in my first band, comin' over to my house with his marineuniform on. Saying that he was goin', and he didn't know where it was.
And a lot of guys went, and a lot of guys didn't come back.
And the luck that came back weren't the same any more.
I remember the day I got my draft notice, I hid it for my folks.
And three days before my physical me and my friends went out and we stayed up all night.
And we got on the bus to go that mornin'.
Man, we were all so scared.
Then I went, and I failed.
And I came home.
Hah, It's nothing to applaude about.
But I remember coming home after I've been gone for three days, and walking in to the kitchen and my mother and father was sitting there.
My dad said
''Where have you been?''
I said I.. I went to my physical. This is what happened.
I said they didn't take me.
And he said:
That's good. ''
