In an unlikely alliance, a CIA agent, Napoleon Solo and KGB agent, Illya Kuryakin, band together to save the world from nuclear disaster. A top nuclear scientist, formerly employed by the US, has gone missing. It is suspected his brother has kidnapped him to work on a nuclear bomb. Solo and Kuryakin accompany the scientist's daughter, Gaby, to Rome, as this is where her uncle is based. The idea is to covertly investigate his company and, hopefully, find the scientist and the bomb. Things aren't all plain sailing though. This is heightened by the fact that Solo and Kuryakin aren't sure they can trust each other and, to some extent, still regard each other as enemies.1963. Napoleon Solo is a suave and urbane C.I.A. agent. He was once a criminal, but the C.I.A. believed his unique talents would be of better service to the country as a spy than they would be if he was behind bars. His current case is to locate Dr. Udo Teller, a famed German rocket scientist who had been working for the Americans on their nuclear program since the end of WWII until he disappeared without a trace two years ago, that is until he was recently photographed in Rome. Napoleon manages to smuggle Teller's biological daughter, Gaby Schmidt, out of East Berlin to the west in order to locate Teller. The Americans don't believe she knows anything about his whereabouts - her father who she has not seen or heard from in eighteen years - but that she can influence some who do, namely her Uncle Rudi who is an executive at Rome-based Vinciguerra Shipping, owned and operated by husband and wife Alexander and Victoria Vinceguerra. The company is purportedly the front for the development of nuclear weapons, the major national intelligence agencies suspecting that Victoria, the brains behind the operation, having kidnapped Teller to build her an atom bomb. Because of the global implications, Napoleon is forced to work on this case with KGB agent Illya Kuryakin. Beyond the east-west divide between the Americans and Soviets, Napoleon will have a difficult time working with his new partner due to their recent not so pleasant encounter in East Berlin, and Illya's volatile and violent temper, which can cloud what he does professionally. As Napoleon, Illya and Gaby work on the case - their success or failure which may determine world order - what happens is affected by other players in the picture which they do not know about, and the Americans and Soviets working arguably on their own different agendas.collaboration between the CIA and KGB in a period of cold war makes us have an idea about how to treat your enemy even in a period of war but since this movie is also a comedy it just might be considered as some sort of fantasy but still with just the right amount of comedy for a spy movie and not overdoing on childish humor is what makes this movie a quite perfect balance of the these two genres... as of the romance, well again even if its not romantic focused this movie includes a little of it just to build up some mystery but not to a point to make the viewer sweat during the movie...
just something real enthusiasts are looking for in a movie to relax after a harsh day of work!!This certainly is nothing like the TV series. In fact, the title could just as easily have been "The Man From C.I.A" or somewhere else. One of the main problems is that director Guy Ritchie keeps the action (and other stuff) so distant you really don't get inside on things. Example: Kiryakan just sits there on and on and on during speedboat chase - and then the climax is away and nearly off screen. The end raid is done in multiple split screen shots that remove the viewer from involvement and (though not true) feels like stock footage was used and this is a way of covering it up. There is very little charisma between Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. I felt Armie Hammer had almost no personality whatsoever. The disposition of the main enemy is not really handled well, and the ending goes too long afterwards. I also felt that there definitely did not need to be so much revelation of negative things in Solo's past.If you have a fondness for the genre and a particular love of '60s pop, The Man From UNCLE is the summer's big fizzy drink, all bubbles, and while it may be gone the moment you walk out of the theater, the smile it puts on your face will likely linger.The film is based on the television series of the same name that ran on NBC from 1964 to '68. The series was an espionage adventure about two secret agents, Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) who worked for an organization named the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) The series was different from most other spy series of the time in that the agents were not acting on behalf of any country or government, but a private organization that was dedicated to fighting crime and evildoers. This was evidenced by the fact that the two agents on the series were an American (Solo) and a Russian (Kuryakin) working together during the Cold War. Their primary antagonist was a criminal network known as THRUSH which was dedicated to taking over the world. No. No, but some extra information about some of the characters are shown during the credits.
